Arita Ware Moonlight Rabbit Sake Set
Arita Ware Moonlight Rabbit Sake Set
Arita ware, or "Arita-yaki," is a type of Japanese porcelain made in Arita, Saga Prefecture, since the early 17th century. Known for its high-quality, durable white porcelain, Arita ware features intricate blue underglaze and colorful overglaze enamel designs. Valued for its beauty and craftsmanship, Arita ware is an important part of Japan's cultural heritage and has influenced ceramics worldwide.
Japanese culture deeply values the rabbit and the moon due to their rich symbolism and folklore. In a popular story, the Moon Rabbit, a disguised Old Man of the Moon, tests a monkey, a fox, and a rabbit by asking for food. The rabbit, having nothing to offer, jumps into a fire to sacrifice himself. Touched by the rabbit’s selflessness, the Old Man reveals his identity and takes the rabbit to the moon, where it becomes a symbol of kindness and sacrifice. Today, people see the rabbit's outline on the moon, especially during the Tsukimi festival.
